When to book a tune-up in Las Vegas
Book the cooling tune-up in spring. ENERGY STAR advises checking the cooling system in spring and the heating system in fall, and Las Vegas averages 78 days a year at or above 100°F.
Book the heating tune-up in fall, before January’s average lows of about 40°F, so a problem shows up before the first cold night rather than on it.
Spring and fall are also the valley’s windy seasons, when the Weather Service notes blowing dust and sand. Check the air filter after a windy week.
Does a tune-up matter for a home warranty?
It can. Many home warranty contracts require yearly AC or furnace service, and a claim can be denied if you can’t show it. Keep the receipt from every tune-up.
What can I do between tune-ups?
Check the air filter once a month in summer and change it when it looks dirty. A clogged filter starves the system of air.
Keep plants, boxes and yard debris away from the outdoor unit so it can move air freely, and rinse off dust after a windy week.
If water ever drips from the indoor unit or a ceiling, switch the system off and call. The condensate drain may be blocked.
