AC repair in Las Vegas

AMA Air repairs central air conditioners, heat pumps and rooftop package units across the Las Vegas valley. Call (702) 750-2608 or book an $89 diagnostic visit online.

Diagnostic visit

$89

A technician comes to your home, tests the system and finds the cause.

If you go ahead with the repair, the $89 is credited toward it.

Safety first. If your AC is out in extreme heat, go to an air-conditioned place such as a library or mall if you can, drink plenty of water, and take a cool shower.

Above 90°F indoors, don’t point a fan at yourself. Check on older or frail neighbors.

What is your AC doing?

  • It runs but blows warm air

Often a failed capacitor or contactor at the outdoor unit, low refrigerant, or a dirty coil. The electrical parts are the first check, then the refrigerant pressures.

  • The outdoor unit is silent

If the indoor fan runs but the outdoor unit doesn’t start, the cause is usually electrical: a capacitor, contactor, the disconnect or a tripped breaker.

  • Ice on the copper lines

Ice usually means too little airflow across the indoor coil or low refrigerant. Switch cooling off and run the fan only so the ice can melt.

  • Water inside the house

A blocked condensate drain overflows near the indoor unit or from a ceiling. The drain line gets cleared and the safety switch checked.

  • It turns on and off every few minutes

Short cycling wears the compressor. Causes range from a thermostat in the wrong place to a refrigerant or electrical problem.

  • The breaker keeps tripping

Don’t keep resetting it. A breaker that trips again is protecting a failing part, often the compressor or fan motor.

Not sure what’s wrong?

A technician can find out. Call now or book a visit online.

What can I check before I call?

  • The thermostat is set to Cool and below the room temperature.
  • The thermostat screen is on. Replace its batteries if it’s blank.
  • The air filter isn’t clogged.
  • The AC breaker in the electrical panel hasn’t tripped.
  • The disconnect switch box next to the outdoor unit is on.
  • After a power outage or a breaker reset, wait about five minutes before turning cooling back on. Restarting right away makes the compressor start against high pressure.

Why Las Vegas air conditioners fail when they do

Las Vegas averages 78 days a year at or above 100°F, and July’s average high is 104.5°F, according to the National Weather Service.

On those afternoons an air conditioner runs for long stretches, which is hard on the outdoor unit’s electrical parts. That’s why the capacitor, contactor and fan motor are among the first parts to check.

Dust matters too. The Weather Service notes that strong winds in spring and fall bring blowing dust and sand to the valley. A clogged filter or a dusty outdoor coil makes the system work harder in the heat that follows.

From our customers

Excellent Service! I’m a senior and panicked when my AC went out, it was 106 degrees outside and 90 degrees in my condo! … They arrived the next day on time, … found the problem immediately, fixed it quickly and efficiently, can’t ask for more than that!! It’s a relief and pleasure to know there are still good companies out there!!! …

Great reliable company. We had a problem with our AC system last week. Technician arrived on time and promptly fixed Freon leak for a very reasonable price. Very happy with the service. Highly recommend.

Questions

Do you repair rooftop package units?

Yes. We repair and replace rooftop package units as well as split systems with an outdoor condenser and an indoor coil.

Do you fix refrigerant leaks?

Yes. The technician measures the system’s pressures, looks for the leak and tells you whether a repair or a coil replacement makes more sense before any work starts.

Should I keep running an AC that has ice on it?

No. Turn cooling off and run the fan only until the ice melts, then call. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.

How soon can AMA Air come out?

Call (702) 750-2608 and we’ll give you the first open time. AMA Care Plan members are booked first.
